Puirt-a-beul are vocal dance tunes, reels, strathspeys and jigs. The lyrics are mostly of a light-hearted nature, dealing with dance, love and fun and the words are deliberately fitted to the music. They are a unique
form of song, that I have only encountered in the gaelic speaking world. Some of them, especially the faster tunes are quite a tongue-twister, but immense fun to sing.
Most tunes (puirt) exist as instrumental pieces as well.
I have no translations to most of the songs , but I think here that doesn't really matter that much. Remember! Dance, love, marriage, making fun...
